Welcome to the Coastal Ocean Observing Lab

The Coastal Ocean Observing Lab has been a part of Scripps Institution of Oceanography since the 1980s. Our lab observes the coastal ocean environment with three main projects: the Shore Stations Program, the SCCOOS Automated Shore Stations Project, and the California Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring Program (CalHABMAP). Most recently this lab maintains the Imaging Flow Cytobot at Newport Beach Pier as part of an early warning system for harmful agal blooms.

COOl continues a long tradition of hands-on coastal ocean observation, a major objective since SIO was founded in 1903.
